Are my qualifications enough

18 August 2011
Are my qualifications enough or the right ones to take your advanced massage courses?

The Prerequisite/Requirements for Attending this Course

We are guided by what the professional bodies and insurance companies ask for.

To attend this course, you must have the following:

This course is for existing therapists ONLY - age 16 and over. Please note that for anyone under the age of 18, their parents are asked to book their course for them or an adult over the age of 18. Also please note that 3rd party insurance cover may not be accepted under the age of 18, we advise you check before you book if under the age of 18.

No written exam – just a practical assessment whilst you work during the day.

Qualification Requirements

This course is for the professional therapist to add to their existing knowledge and qualifications.

Please read this page in full - we can check your qualifications if you are unsure if you have a level 3 - further information for this can be found on this page please scroll down for more information - thank you

You will be required to have a level 3 certificate in Anatomy and Physiology

AND

A level 3 in full body Massage qualification (Swedish, Holistic or Sports).

We can accept one certificate which combines both or individual certificates is also fine, if you have gained these qualifications separately.

We CANNOT accept an online qualification for level 3 in Massage.

We can however accept an online qualification for the Anatomy and Physiology.

It can be an ITEC, VTCT, BTEC, CIDESCO and CIBTAC level 3 or a similar qualification.

We are NOT allowed to accept the following qualifications

WHY?

Because they will not cover all the techniques in a level 3 that is required to go onto one of the advanced massage courses as you will need this knowledge to attend and also due to insurance laws.

We cannot acccept the following:

Reflexology - this is not full body and it is a requirement for 100 practical hours which covers the full body only.

Aromatherapy  - If it was oil based only - however please check with us if it was a long course including full body massage to a level 3

Indian head massage - this is not full body and it is a requirement for 100 practical hours which covers the full body only.

Thai body massage - this does not cover the techniques required.

A Guild full body massage qualification or GTi massage qualification we cannot accept.

We are also unable to accept a Beauty Guild Massage Diploma as this is only 70 hours

We are unable to accept a GTi massage qualification over one or two days or a weekend 2-3 day diploma in massage with any other company, as these CANNOT be accepted as 100 practical hours are required or cover the techniques required.

These are strict rules that we have to adhere to by our school insurance cover, as well as many of the professional body requirements who accredit our courses.

We appreciate you may have been a great massage therapist for years, however it is not the amount of massage you do but the level you have trained in originally.

NVQ level 3 that is required to join this course is at least 100 training hours – A weekend diploma or a short course in massage cannot be accepted. This will determine if you have covered the required techniques which need to be included in your level 3 training before you can move onto a more advanced massage course. Without these techniques you would struggle and it would not be safe as those are the foundations and knowledge required to attend a more advanced massage course.

It is not personal if we cannot accept you, it is a legal requirement we must follow, we do however offer the ITEC level 3 massage training so you can take this with us or any other training school if you require the level 3 required to then be able to move on to the more advanced massage courses later.

IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER - IF YOU NEED US TO CHECK IF YOUR QUALIFICATION IS ACCEPTABLE YOU CAN EMAIL US

It is very important you check your qualifications are accepted before signing up to this course, it is the responsibility of the individual student to do this if you pay for a course without the right qualifications required an admin charge is made to refund any deposits if you do not have the level 3 qualification that is required by the schools insurance company.

If in doubt please email us to check if your qualification is acceptable:

sue@gatewayworkshops.co.uk

If you are unsure of the level of your massage or A & P training to attend our advanced courses (Deep tissue, Hot stone, Pregnancy, MLD etc.) please check this with the training provider for the course you completed.

Your training provider will be able to confirm if the course you have taken is to the level 3 that standard that is required, we cannot tell you this as it has to come from the provider you trained with. If you have taken a level 3 ITEC, BTEC or similar and you know your qualification is acceptable please go ahead and book when you are ready.

We will require a copy of your qualification before you attend (this is to be sent to your tutor) if it is not clear that your qualification is a level 3 in full body massage you will be asked by your tutor to provide a letter from your training provider to confirm that the course covered 100 hours of practical massage training (which is the level 3 we require), if however your qualification is an overseas certificate please read the information below.

If your qualification was taken overseas and not in the UK - Please follow the instructions below

You can check with NARIC to see if the level you trained to is equivalent to our UK NVQ Level 3 requirement. Here are the guidelines from the accrediting bodies:

We suggest that you check your qualifications on the NARIC website http://www.naric.org.uk/

They are the National Agency, managed on behalf of the UK Government, who provide the official source of information on international qualifications. They will be able to map the qualifications onto the UK framework and also help if you have foreign qualifications.

A £5 administration fee will also apply if you book an advanced course and you do not have the correct qualifications to attend and need to cancel. The website is very clear as to the requirements needed and it is the responsibility of the student to check their qualifications before they book onto an advanced course, making sure they have the right qualifications before confirming their booking - thank you.

    • If you book onto a Gateway one day 'advanced' massage course you will be required to produce a copy of your qualification before you can attend
    • Not all our one day courses will require previous massage experience - each course page will tell you if this is required
    • If we find that the level of your training is not accepted by the bodies who accredit our courses, rather than lose your deposit you will be offered to transfer onto one of the other courses which will accept you that does not require previous qualifications.
    • It is the responsibility of the student to make sure they have the right qualification before they sign up to the course.
    • Please remember we cannot check your qualification for you as we do not work with the insurance companies the accrediting bodies do so you would have to gain this confirmation from them
