New Therapist? General Advice

General Advice for New Massage/Beauty Therapist looking to Start a Career & useful Existing Therapists Info

What To Expect From Us

We like to look after our students with great courses and all questions answered by our tutors before you book and great aftercare after you attend our training. We also give each student our complimentary A & P plus our accounts package e-manuals when you book a course with us, this saves you having to buy them and is our gift to you.

Importantly as it is the most asked question - how do I get clients, we also work with a company who can help you find work or top up your clients if you need it! They offer full or part time work for therapists making it easy for you to get clients after you have trained with us. You can find this information on our links page.

This is another way we look after our students new to massage or beauty or existing therapists, when you choose to train with us.

Our one day diploma courses which we run at our various venues around London, the UK, Scotland and Ireland, have been accredited and also passed for insurance cover by various top professional bodies. Beauty and Holistic Guild, ThinkTree, FHT, CTHA, ABT,  Towergate and others accredit our courses, allowing therapists (existing and new) to obtain insurance cover or add their training to existing insurance and use what they learn professionally and charge their clients.

We also have longer ITEC courses like level 3 in holistic massage and Sports massage and also distance learning courses too. We also offer in-house training and have trained therapists from Gleneagles, John Lewis Spa, Bobbi Brown UK & Ireland, Dolce & Gabbana beauty UK, Champneys Health Resort and have also trained large professional salons like Dior, cliveden, The Mandarin Oriental Spa at Knightsbridge, the Sanctuary and also channel 4 make-up artists for the Hollyoaks TV programme.

Are you a beginner or need some helpful advice about massage, beauty, spiritual or distance learning courses?

Many people due to the being made redundant are also looking for an extra income too so training as a therapist is ideal.

This page will answer all the questions you will have and give you general advice about which courses to take, insurance etc. Please scroll down this page to view all the information and feel free to call us if you have any further questions.

Many people are now offering therapies at the weekend or evenings giving them an extra income. We have found that often people enjoy being a therapist so much they often look to give up their full time job to pursue a career as a massage therapist. With Gateway Workshops Ltd this is available with our professional training, advice and wide range of courses on offer.

There are many courses on offer and it can be confusing choosing the right one, we are here to help. There are many different options however the two most popular are either to train in full body massage as a professional therapist or if you are not interested in offering holistic massage you can train in our one day practitioner courses.

As a beginner what are the best options available to me?

If you are a beginner you may wish to start with our one day courses to see if you are suited to massage and if you really enjoy training in these; you can then go on to learning the full body massage course as this is a longer and more costly commitment. There are two paths most people consider when thinking about training - either to offer full body massage or other therapies like Indian head massage, facial massage, chair massage or foot/hand massage. Some people do not wish to offer full body massage so the other options we offer are ideal. It really is personal choice; others like to offer both holistic full body massage and a variety of other therapies.

All our one day practitioner courses are recognised and insurable allowing you to use these with the general public and charge as a professional therapist. You can also attend and learn these just for use with family and friends - this is your choice, we offer small classes ensuring individual attention with passionate and caring tutors who are excellent in their fields.

To view all the courses we have on offer please visit our web site home page and choose the courses available page.

Courses for existing therapists with a level 3 in full body massage

You will notice that our other one day advanced massage courses are designed for existing therapists only with a level 3 in full body massage. We offer a range of these courses from hot stone massage to MLD, Pregnancy and Detox and many more so you can add training to what you have already learnt and offer your clients.

This makes you stand out from the crowd so you can offer all the popular courses and have a wide range for your clients and you can also top up on your CPD points as they are all accredited and carry points for your continued training if you require this.

All courses will tell you on the course page if previous experience is required.

More information about training in full body holistic/Swedish massage

If you wish to train as a professional massage therapist offering full body massage (known as Holistic or Swedish body massage) you will need to train in a recognised qualification so you can obtain insurance and use this therapy with the general public and be able to charge.

An internationally recognised qualification is ITEC highly regarded in the industry.  Holistic massage is the same as Swedish massage and will allow you to learn everything you need to become a professional massage therapist. We offer this with Gateway tutors in several locations across the UK and also in Belfast/Ireland; we have weekend options as well as weekdays.

We also offer the ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma courses and the ITEC Sports Massage.

The ITEC full body massage course is a great place to start if you want to become a professional massage therapist and the qualification is recognised all over the world:

What are the advantages of learning massage at a private school rather than at a college?

The massage course we promote is a Fast Track /Intensive Holistic Massage Diploma for people who want to study quickly. The massage course is provided as two blocks of ten dynamic and energetic days over 3 months. This is ideal for those of you who do not wish to attend a college course which can take a year with many evening classes.

The other advantage is that you do not have as many students attending which will give you more one to one tuition. At a college you can have as many as 40 students in a class and you can get lost in numbers. A private course allows you to attend a class with
smaller numbers, which is excellent, giving you the attention you need.

We hope this has been helpful, if you have any other questions please feel free to email us by using the contact us page on our website.

We also have a FAQ page which covers many of the questions about our courses and also a page with regard to the professional bodies and also therapist insurance.

If we can be of any further help, please feel free to email us:
