Are my qualifications enough

18 August 2011
Are my qualifications enough or the right ones to take your advanced massage courses?

Not sure your qualification/s will be accepted?

Important Note!

Please note we cannot check your qualification for you, please do not email them to us for checking.

This is because we do not work with the insurance companies who need to confirm if they can be accepted or not. However the accrediting and approval professional bodies who are independently set up work with them but as they are not connected with us you would have to gain this confirmation from them direct we cannot sadly help you with this process.

A qualification in Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Indian head massage, thai massage or a weekend diploma 2-3 days) in massage CANNOT be accepted - we have to adhere to the very strict rules of the accrediting bodies and their insurance requirements with regard to what they require and what we can accept.

We appreciate you may have been a great massage therapist for years, however it is not the amount of massage you do but the level you have trained in originally.

This will determine if you have covered the required techniques which need to be included in your level 3 training before you can move onto a more advanced massage course. As without these techniques you would struggle and it would not be safe as those are the foundations and knowledge required to attend a more advanced massage course.

It is not personal if we cannot accept you it is a legal requirement we must follow, we do however offer the ITEC level 3 massage training so you can take this with us or any other training school if you require the level 3 required to then be able to move onto the more advanced massage courses later.

Need help finding out if your qualifications can be accepted.

You can contact CTHA

Please be aware that they get very busy

Tell them you are thinking of taking a course that requires a level 3 in full body massage that they accredit and you would like to find out if they would accept your qualifications as they approve our courses.

If they say your level 3 qualification would be accepted, please send this over to us in writing and once we have their acceptance of your qualifications in writing, we can look into this further for you and check our school insurance agree's and it can be accepted and we will let you know - thank you.

It is very important you check your qualifications are accepted before signing up to this course, it is the responsibility of the individual student to do this as we are not allowed to check your qualifications on your behalf.

If you are unsure of the level of your massage or A & P training to attend our advanced courses (Deep tissue, Hot stone, Pregnancy, MLD etc.) please check this with the training provider for the course you completed.

Your training provider will be able to confirm if the course you have taken is to the level 3 that standard that is required, we cannot tell you this as it has to come from the provider you trained with. If you have taken a level 3 ITEC, BTEC or similar and you know your qualification is acceptable please go ahead and book when you are ready.

We will require a copy of your qualification before you attend (this is to be sent to your tutor), if it is not clear that your qualification is a level 3 in full body massage you will be asked by your tutor to provide a letter from your training provider to confirm that the course covered 100 hours of practical massage training (which is the level 3 we require), if however your qualification is an overseas certificate please read the information below.

If your qualification was taken overseas and not in the UK - Please follow the instructions below

You can check with NARIC to see if the level you trained to is equivalent to our UK NVQ Level 3 requirement. Here are the guidelines from the accrediting bodies:

We suggest that you check your qualifications on the NARIC website

They are the National Agency, managed on behalf of the UK Government, who provide the official source of information on international qualifications. They will be able to map the qualifications onto the UK framework and also help if you have foreign qualifications.

A £5 administration fee will also apply if you book an advanced course and you do not have the correct qualifications to attend and need to cancel. The website is very clear as to the requirements needed and it is the responsibility of the student to check their qualifications before they book onto an advanced course, making sure they have the right qualifications before confirming their booking - thank you.

    • If you book onto a Gateway one day 'advanced' massage course you will be required to produce a copy of your qualification before you can attend
    • Not all our one day courses will require previous massage experience - each course page will tell you if this is required
    • If we find that the level of your training is not accepted by the bodies who accredit our courses, rather than lose your deposit you will be offered to transfer onto one of the other courses which will accept you that does not require previous qualifications.
    • It is the responsibility of the student to make sure they have the right qualification before they sign up to the course.
    • Please remember we cannot check your qualification for you as we do not work with the insurance companies the accrediting bodies do so you would have to gain this confirmation from them
