My name is Elizabeth McDonagh, but most people call me Betty. I have been working full-time in the Hair/Beauty/Massage industry for over 25 years. After completing my ‘A’ levels I decided I did not want to work in an office, but find a role where I could use my desire to care for others and express my natural compassion. I spent 4 years in college to gain my Hair & Beauty qualifications, and at the same time worked part-time in a variety of Salons. After a few years working abroad in Australia I came home to setup my own business.
I opened my own salon in October 1999 and have not looked back since. I have customers who have been with me from when I first started. It gives me enormous pleasure to see my customers leave the salon happy and up-beat and I always look forward to their return. In the time I have been working I have built a reputation for professional, quality, sincere work that is focussed on the needs of my customer. Word of mouth referral is by far the best advertising I get. In recent years I have explored on-site corporate work as another means to share what I do.
Continuous professional development has always been important to me so I am always seeking new courses and training. This helps me stay focused and bring new treatments into the salon in response to customer needs. Most recently I have gained NVQ level-3 Sport Massage and Japanese Acupressure / Shiatsu Massage.
I am very excited to be working with Gateway Workshops as a Beauty Tutor - I see this as a natural progression for me. Gateway gives me the opportunity to share my experience and passion for this industry and to support both new and experienced therapists to develop and grow in the same way I have over the years. I hope to bring the same professional, caring and passionate approach to my teaching as I do with my treatments for customers.
I found Betty to be very welcoming & put me at ease staight away. She was very informative and answered all my questions. It really helped that she was so relaxed & friendly. She was able to share her experiences & knowledge and told us we could contact her if we needed any further advice which I really appreciated.
