Amanda McMullan

Horses have always been a big part of my life. Before university, I worked as a professional groom, supporting competition riders across the UK and Ireland. Those years gave me a deep understanding of the demands of equestrian sport and the importance of keeping both horse and rider performing at their best. In 2000, I decided to develop my passion for performance and wellbeing further, and began studying at Nottingham Trent University, graduating in 2004 with a BSc (Hons) in Sports and Exercise Science.

Since then, I’ve dedicated my career to helping people feel and move better. I’ve worked as a PE teacher, a personal trainer, and for the past 14 years, I’ve successfully run my own private practice as a sports and holistic therapist. Being self-employed has given me the freedom to work closely with clients and develop a truly personalised approach to health and wellbeing.

I absolutely love learning – it’s something I never stop doing – and just as importantly, I love passing that knowledge on. For me, teaching isn’t just about skills; it’s about empowering other therapists so they can help even more people live healthier, happier lives. When we share knowledge, the benefits ripple out far beyond the classroom.

Continued professional development is something I value deeply. Our industry is always evolving, and staying up to date ensures we can offer the very best care to our clients. I regularly invest in new training and techniques, and I encourage my students to do the same. CPD isn’t just a requirement – it’s the key to growth, confidence, and excellence as a therapist.

I’m also a very spiritual person, and this is a huge part of who I am. I love teaching Reiki and Seichem, guiding others to connect with energy healing and experience its incredible benefits. Helping students explore these practices and bring them into their own work is something that brings me so much joy.

I’ve had the privilege of working with elite athletes and major sporting events such as Volleyball England, the London Marathon, Triathlon UK, and the Royal Marines Rehabilitation Triathlon. These experiences taught me so much about recovery, resilience, and performance.

Today, I combine my love for horses with my expertise in sports therapy, massage, and rider biomechanics, helping riders improve their performance and supporting clients through injury recovery – both physically and mentally.

Teaching with Gateway Workshops allows me to share everything I’ve learned – from sports therapy to energy healing – and inspire others to grow their skills and confidence. If you’re passionate about helping people and want to learn from real-world experience, I’d love to guide you on your journey. I look forward to meeting you on a course!
