BORIS NUMBER 10 LATEST UPDATE AND WHAT THIS MEANS FOR OUR BEAUTY, MASSAGE AND HOLISTIC THERAPISTS

11 May 2020

No our industry cannot go back to work yet, for the reasons outlined below, as we cannot apply the 2m social distancing rule which is still in place.

It’s a wait and see situation because we have to monitor things, it might be late June or July but only if we keep the ‘R’ number down, there’s no decision as they have to see if things are safe after gradual lifting of the lockdown.

Therapists (mobile and at a salon) and training schools can’t open yet and people just have to be patient. Any changes are minor for next 3 weeks, if we rush back now and it gets a grip again we will be back to square one and thousands will die so we need to wait for another 3 weeks which is the right thing to do.

If you are in Scotland, Ireland and Wales they have their own updates, I’m based in the England so we are sharing this

Basically he’s saying you can only go back to work if you can’t work from home and only if you can put into place social distancing at work, so that rules our industry out at the moment

These new rules and regulations only apply to England.

Simplifying what Boris said:

STEP 1

  • Outdoor exercise is now unlimited as long as you socially distance.
  • You are now allowed to visit parks, walk, sunbathe and even BBQ as long as you socially distance.
  • You can now drive to other destinations in England (not Scotland or Wales) to exercise as long as you socially distance.
  • You can now play sports, but only with people from your own household to reduce the chance of infection from others.
  • Fines to be increased for people who ignore social distancing rules and take part in social gatherings.
  • You can now start going back to work, only if you can't work from home and social distancing rules can still be met - manufacturing and construction work were mentioned.
  • You should try to avoid public transportation where possible, ideally walking or cycling to work if practical, if not then drive.

The above new measures will be monitored BEFORE moving to step 2 if there is no major increase in infections.

STEP 2

  • The phased reopening of retail and some shops.
  • Look at getting primary schools back. Reception, year 1 and year 6.
  • Secondary school pupils will get some time with teachers before the holiday regarding exams.
  • STEP 3 (no earlier than July 2020)
  • Start to look at reopening hospitality and other public places that attract larger gatherings such as restaurants, cinemas and leisure etc.
  • The above is to be staged over the next two months.

⛔Social distancing rules stay in place and must still be followed.

⛔Visiting other households is still not permitted.

⛔Social gatherings are still not allowed.

⛔You do not have to return to work if your place of work is not yet allowed to open or your employer chooses to remain closed.

⛔Restricted movement is NOT over; it has just been slightly relaxed to see if doing so has an effect on the reinfection rate (R value)

⚠️Boris made it clear if the steps are not met then social distancing and restricted movement will carry on until the steps are met!

⛔STAY ALERT.
Remain aware and vigilant; the virus is still a threat to your health and the health of others.

⛔CONTROL THE VIRUS.
Continue to control the spread of the virus by adhering to social distancing guidelines, avoid or restrict contact with outside of your household.

⛔SAVE LIVES
Do your part to help stop the spread of the virus to yourself and others.

How to Make Your Salon or Therapy Business Grow and Stay Successful During and long after Lockdown

We have had quite a few past student/therapists tell us they want to work from home more, looking I guess to finally get the work life balance and still earn good money.

We are helping them to become professionally qualified allowing them to offer their clients therapies over the phone, via Skype or Zoom. That way their business doesn’t have to stop if they can’t see people face to face, or don’t want to so they protect their income moving forwards, making sure they can still work from home.

The feedback has been similar from a lot of people who want the work life balance but it’s not always that easy, having to work at the salon or with clients as a mobile therapist can have expensive outlays, however at home you can build a successful business with clients via phone or video consultations which is becoming much more in demand.

It allows you to travel less and save money on renting a room. We are helping our students keep up with the growing demand for consultants in many therapies by learning new things and adapting their business with us at their own pace with online courses - the world is definitely changing!

THE THERAPISTS WHO WORK FROM HOME WITH SOME CLIENTS OVER THE PHONE OR ON SKYPE OR ZOOM ARE THE ONES WHO THRIVED AND MADE A GOOD LIVING EVEN WHILST ON LOCKDOWN.

Adapt - Grow - Overcome and Thrive

It has become very clear in all types of industries now, that if we believe in the next few weeks or even months that things are going to change and allow us to go back to normal then we are kidding ourselves.

If you do not take action now and jump in, you will talk yourself out of action on how to improve your business and you will get stuck in the 'one day I will ..... ‘, day-dreaming approach and end up doing nothing. However, it is time for action or you will be left behind.

This is where we can help you, we have been successfully doing this with our students and other therapists are also seeing the value and organising their training.

This time is a huge opportunity that we all need to grasp with both hands, it is a new brilliant opportunity for those who are living in the here and now reality and looking around at the whole world realising that things need to change and they need to put things in place and do this now!

THIS IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO HELP THERAPISTS ALL PLAN AHEAD AND KEEP TRADING WITH AN INCOME

AS THINGS ARE UNLIKELY TO RETURN TO HOW THEY WERE.

We want to help you with this and we are here for you as well as our lovely students who have studied with us. So many of our students are saying that their clients are still asking them if they can come and have their nails and brows done or get a massage at their salons! Not sure what planet they are on to think anyone is open.

Luckily our loyal students are one step ahead and doing our online courses whilst they are at home self-isolating, making sure they keep their skills updated. They are planning ahead which is vital for all therapists to do!

Here is why and how we can help you too...

GET AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Five vital points - why this is important and what you can do now!

1.    When you are in challenging times one thing you must all keep in mind is .....

"Delay at your Peril"

Are you thinking this awful time will be over in a few short weeks and we can get back to normal and I am too depressed to do anything right now?

Are you thinking of all the negative things and the bad things this brings up for you which is keeping you stuck?

OR ARE YOU THINKING:

This is a brilliant time and opportunity for both myself and my business to thrive!

I know I need to look at the reality of this situation and realise if I am to not only to survive this but adapt, grown and overcome it, then I need to find new ways of doing things.

If you are thinking it is dangerous to ignore the reality of what is going on, you would be right!!

Rather than be disillusioned into thinking things will go back to 'normal', instead use this time to find ways to develop your business and be inspired to do things differently.

"Achieve the impossible which is definitely possible"

And another saying which is fantastic is:

"If you always do, what you always did, you will always get, what you always got, so try something different!"

2.    The two important questions you should be asking yourself right now are:

How are you going to use this time?

AND

How are you going to do things differently?

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT RATHER THAN BEING DIFFICULT, THE SOLUTION FOR A THERAPIST IS REALLY REALLY EASY!

When you realise that you cannot rely on anyone else to do the work for you or save you and that you have to do this yourself, not just to survive this, but to thrive you can easily move on!

3.    If we allow it, we can be left behind and put our heads in the sand for the next 2 - 3 months and eventually when we come out of this lockdown we’ll suffer from lack of planning. The fact is, if you do nothing within this time you will be left behind the curve

The opportunity you have NOW is to be stronger, to do better and to improve your client base - how?

By doing a range of things to achieve this easily.

4.    I heard some interesting facts the other day and that were, in the Second World War, productivity rose 3 fold as people chose new ways of doing things. The people who chose to adapt and do things differently all thrived then but also continued to thrive when the war was over. However when the war ended, those who did not change anything became less prosperous and had less of an income compared to what they had before the war started!

How does the past relate to us now?

Think of the restaurants who have closed their doors, some have chosen to put their head in the sand and do nothing and just hope things will return to 'normal'. However, the restaurants who have adapted quickly are those who are now offering deliveries. They are thriving and taking more orders than they did when they just had seated options in their restaurants. When they re-open not only will they have their regular clients coming back but they will ALSO have many NEW clients ordering take-aways and they will be better off after this crisis than they were before it!

Those businesses applying this (not just restaurants) are all going to gain new clients and if we were to have a lockdown once again (which the government are saying is likely) then they would be able to rest in the peace, security and knowledge that they have prepared themselves for the change and anything in the future similar to this would not affect their business as badly again. Any drop off in one part of the business would be OK as the other part of the business would keep them busy and be very prosperous even on its own.

Do you want to do nothing now and wish in a few months you had put something extra in place or do you want to adapt now and gain the benefits now as well as later?

5.    IS IT POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE A WORK LIFE BALANCE AS WELL AS MAKE AN EXTRA INCOME?

YES!

Many of our students and therapists are telling us they miss their clients, however they have also realised how much they had neglected themselves and they do actually like this lockdown period so they can give more time to themselves and not feel guilty.

Therapists are telling us they want a work life balance and are looking at ways to achieve this but to still thrive without working themselves so hard.

Our Students are taking this time to learn a new skill that they can offer over the phone, by Zoom or Skype and know they can work less hours and make more money which will then allow more time for themselves and more time with their family.

HOW WE ARE HELPING OUR STUDENTS AND HOW WE CAN HELP YOU TOO

It is so important to consider a second income now as this lockdown may go on for a lot longer than many people realise and if we have other outbreaks (which scientists are saying is likely) then short lockdowns will be implemented, so it is vital to have a second string to your bow and a second income.

Getting qualified in something new so that you can offer your clients options over the phone like a nutrition consultation, EFT session, life coaching or mindfulness practice via Zoom, are some examples of new things you can do (we offer all of these accredited courses online so you can get recognised qualifications to use professionally - we have many different options to choose from) and it is a great idea to be prepared for this new world we all find ourselves in.

If you have a course yourself that you want to write and sell to others, you can! Not sure how then try our "How to Write and Sell an Online Course" this will help you through the process step by step making it easy and quick!

The clever therapists are already thinking ahead and are learning online courses now to offer their clients, so they don’t get left behind.

We have over 20 to choose from, they are all professionally recognised accredited online courses making them insurable so you can gain insurance and offer them to your clients.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Guidance

5 March 2020

Personal Message from Sue Bailey - Director/Founder
Gateway Workshops LTD

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Guidance - Update 19th March

With a heavy heart we are closing Gateway on Friday 20th March at 5pm, temporarily until further notice. We very much hope to re-open again in June, so students can still book courses on the website for later dates and if those don’t go ahead for any reason (due to the coronavirus) then we can transfer you again if anyone needs to.

IMPORTANT - ALL students can now choose any date they want to when transferring (not just June or July) to minimise stress when you transfer so you have plenty of choice. We want to thank you for all of your loyalty as I know many of you still wanted to attend our classes but we feel this is now the right thing to do, to keep everyone safe.

Please, however, do re-book for a later date so we can keep trading and our amazing and wonderful tutors keep their jobs!

We need your continued support to keep a school built 20 years ago by passion and love going and not be lost and keep our wonderful dedicated tutors in work.

We hope you will support us all in this and follow the lead of other old and new students supporting us by choosing a later date this year to attend instead of cancelling and also booking a new one in the future at a venue or take the time out if you are having to self- isolate and choose one of our popular online courses and learn in the comfort of your own home.

Thank you for your understanding, commitment and support during these unprecedented times - stay well everyone x

We will continue to monitor the official guidance, and should this be updated, we will make the necessary changes.

We will continue to monitor this official guidance, and should this be updated,  we will make the necessary changes. Gateway Workshops asks learners to follow the current advice which is available here
